This is the first start up of our mk6a after ten years of rebuild! It is a full race 1040cc Imp, with r20 cam etc!

Hi Jeremy,

Excellent news on the start up, it must have been a glorius moment after all this time ;) :P :D Did you build the engine yourself and what are your plans with the car now that you have breathed new life back into it?

Hi, yes it was! The car officially belongs to my eldest Daughter, who turned 10 on monday. It was started for her birthday! The car will be used on the road, maybe the occasional hillclimb/sprint. Although it has a full race engine (we hope about 110bhp) it is quite heavy due to all of the creature comforts like electric windows, not to mention the amount of cow that went into the interior!!! :D We built the engine from a 930 block, and did all the usual bits to make it powerful but also reliable (i am an engine builder for my job!). its a little way off finishing yet though, there are all the fiddly bits to do!

Thats a great thought you had to start it on a birthday, beats a Wii any day :D Yes, these little cars do need a lot of tlc and prepping but well worth it. Engine builder eh.... any particular speciality such as bike, car, lorry - standard or competition.. ;) Roll on you first road trip on the public highway i say :o

Cool 8-)

Jeemy,

Out of interest, what does the car weigh? Did you weigh it before adding the cow?

I ask as my Mk4 racer weighed in at Nogaro at an astonishing 600kg! I was shocked....ok it has a rollbar and had petrol in it, but only in one tank.

My Mk7 only weighs 490kg!

To be honest i'm not sure how much it weighs! We have to set up the corner weights soon so that should give us an idea! We have built it more as a 'quick' but comfy road car, hence the cow interior and electric windows etc, so as long as it is fairly quick it'll be ok! We hope the engine will produce about 120bhp (full race 1040cc imp) so even if it weighs 8 or 900 kgs then it'll still be fast!! (about the same power to weight of a porsche boxer!!! :P )
