That's definitely a bit low at the front. Looks like mine did before I fitted the AVOs. Here's how it was in 1994 when I replaced the rear shock mountings.

Image

My daughter (in the car) had just helped remove the original mountings which were rusty. All 16 bolts needed cutting from inside the car. I remember thinking "Never again!" but this afternoon I had the pleasure  of a repeat performance as I've just had some wedge spacers made up to correct the angle at the head of the mount where the shock goes in. I had taken them both off as the heights were different by 5mm.
Spot-on now though! And repainted.

Doing the bolts up was made even more horrific by the FIA rollbar.

That's pretty much the stance of mine, was the handling drastically improved after you corrected the height?

I have to agree with you about the bolts, when I did mine I really wished I had done it at work where I hsve a 1/4" drive air rachet

Strangely, I don't recall it handling badly before, but I'm pretty sure the shock mounts weren't as high as yours seem to be.

I also don't recall it having negative camber. It's much easier for me to mess with front suspension setting having the flip-front, but I'd be very interested to see how yours are fitted. Also, what's the difference in length between the old coilovers and the AVOs?

One advantage of a flip-front....easier to work on suspension.

Rear shock towers now rectified for height and head angle.

Interesting to hear various thoughts on suspension set up.My thoughts are that for many of us for road use and occassional trackdays then some basic checking and adjustment with the right springs, dampers and tryres is all that is required. If serious competition is intended then checking from the three suspension attachment points is necessary to avoid any irregularities there might be in the body/chassis unit.
Younger/newer Davrian owners may not be aware of the writings of David Vizard and Andy Dawson in CCC magazine back in the 1970's giving lots of useful info on Imps. Most of it is still very relavent although obviously some things have moved on, here are a couple of links.

Hey up Cheeser, that's pretty much the same as the mods detailed in Willy Griffiths book that 20 odd years ago on my first car, an Imp, I followed to the word, ( even cutting down the springs! ), resulted in a really nice neutral to mild oversteer car.

Thanks for those links, Cheeser.

Dave....did you try the heater system without the extra pump?
Also, do you have any photos of the fitting of your electric pop-up lights?
What are they from in fact?

the motor that moves the head lights are mx5 ( early ) you have to have the

Nice one Dave, I look forward to that. One pic is often worth a thousand words.
If you have a photo of this relay that'd be mighty handy too.

I'm most impressed by your car....I like the way you integrated a set of driving lights in addition to the pop ups....are the driving lights 6" units?

My Mk 7 has 7" Cibie Oscar headlamps.....
