Davrian Mk6 Modsport ex Angus Young

Post by masermat »

I'm looking to find some information about this particular Mk6 Modsport driven by Angus Young with the Agra colors.
Any help will be very welcome

Is the second picture taken at Wiscombe or is that at Harewood?

If it's at Wiscombe then I think I know some of the other cars and that might help in trying to get an owners name from the late 80's or early 90's.

Edit: Been told on UHR that it, 2nd photo, might have been Ian Wearden's car in those colours, If it is, it then went on to be owned by Mark Britt who had a big accident in it at a hillclimb in the early 90's, as he was running an OMS in the leaders in '94.

Pretty sure that after the accident Mark sold it to someone who then made it into a convertible/open top Davrian road car.

If it was that car then:
Mk6 : Mr.& Mrs. Weardown
Alan Richie
Mark Britt
R.J.Morris (see note 15)
ANDREW MORRIS
Note 15: This car was severely damaged by Mark Britt at the Wiscombe Hillclimb. It was since purchased by R.J.Morris, who converted it into an open-top car and back to road specification

2nd Edit: Another person on UHR has posted "I was only speaking to the bloke who owns the ex Britt car on Saturday. The car as you say is open top and in otherwise unbuilt condition, no motor no transaxle, it's now in Dorset." Now seeing if a current name can be found.

The second picture should be done at Harewood but I'm not sure.
The past owner Mr. Edward Newman gave me this notes:

It spent most of its life racing in Scotland. Initially it was raced by John Kirk from about 1974 until the end of 1977. It is believed that he did a lot of the development work on the car. It was the first Imp engined racer to run a long stroke engine (1150cc) in Scotland. He was runner up to a Clan in the 76 season but got the car perfected for the next year. In 1977 it won its class in every event it entered and on a number of occasions it won outright. It finished the season as Scottish Modsports Champion and it even made one visit to England to take on the best in the country where it lead home a Scottish 1, 2 and 4. At some events the car was entered into 3 different races – upto 850cc, upto 1 litre and upto 1.15 litre. On these occasions it won all 3 races! At the end of the season with nothing left to achieve with it John sold it on to Angus Young. Angus raced it under Agra Engineering sponsorship until the end of 1980. In it’s final season with Angus it won it’s class in the Hillclimb & Sprint championship and achieved 2nd in class & 3rd overall in the Scottish Modsports championship. After this it was sold onto Colin Simpson who raced it until 1982 when it’s engine blew up. It was then sold on and kept in storage until the previous owner bought it and started to restore it with aim of fitting a motorbike engine. The present owner acquired it September 2002 and it is now being restored back to original condition. Although it is no longer legal for circuit racing it is hoped that it will do some hillclimb races when it is finished

2nd picture is at Wiscombe, all three cars that I recognised have been confirmed to me, Tony Wiltshire's Elan, Andy Pegg's Europa and Geoff Picket's Morgan. So pretty sure it would have been late 80's/very early 90's when that pic was taken. Do you have a chassis no?

Why would it not be legal for circuits any more?
